Craig Hope has given his reaction to the latest Newcastle United injury setback involving Martin Dubravka.

The Lowdown: Dubravka setback

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against Burnley in the Carabao Cup second round, Steve Bruce has now confirmed (via Sky Sports) that Dubravka could maybe be back in 'eight weeks'.

The former Aston Villa and Sunderland manager added that his wound got 'infected', meaning that it has set him back 'another couple of weeks'.

The Latest: Hope reacts

Hope has since given his reaction on his Twitter page after hearing the update, claiming that it is a 'big blow' for the St. James' Park faithful.

The Daily Mail journalist added that 'at his best, he saves a lot of points'.

The Verdict: Blow

It is certainly a blow to hear that Dubravka has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury, especially after Bruce also confirmed that Karl Darlow is also unavailable at the moment.

It means that the North East club will have to continue to rely on third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who has conceded six goals in his first two games in the new 2021/22 Premier League season, until either player is back.

Dubravka has very much been first choice since arriving on Tyneside, playing in every single game in the top flight in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns (Transfermarkt), and Bruce will want the Slovakia international back as soon as possible.
