Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Marseille striker Bamba Dieng.

The Lowdown: Striker wanted

Having recently been linked with the likes of Armando Broja and Timo Werner, it is clear that the St. James' Park outfit are looking to sign a new striker.

Callum Wilson suffered from injury problems last season, and Chris Wood has not hit the ground running, so they could really do with some more cover in that area of the pitch.

The Latest: Dieng interest

Taking to Twitter, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that interest from the Premier League in Dieng, who has been labelled a 'serious talent' and the 'new Sadio Mane', is 'growing':

"Premier League interest grows in Marseille star Bamba Dieng. Big talent who is one of many to fall foul of the new Igor Tudor regime. Labelled the new Sadio Mane and is a serious talent who could be available for knockdown price."

Expanding in his article for 90min, the journalist revealed that the Magpies, as well as West Ham United, Everton, Leeds United, Wolves and Crystal Palace, are 'keen' on signing Dieng, while there is also interest in the 22-year-old from both Germany and Spain.

The Verdict: Get it done

With the new top-flight season kicking off tonight as Palace host Arsenal, the North East club need to act fast to bring new faces in, so that they can settle in as quickly as possible and make an instant impact.

Dieng is clearly a formidable talent if he is being compared to former Liverpool now Bayern Munich superstar Mane, and he starred alongside his countryman in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), playing in all of the knockout games and scoring a goal in helping Senegal win the tournament (Transfermarkt).

For Marseille, he managed a handy eight goals and three assists in total over all competitions last season (Transfermarkt), and so could be an ideal alternative to Wilson and Wood.
