Newcastle United are reportedly fighting three of their rivals in the Premier League to sign Ajax central midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

The Lowdown: Busy week

The St. James' Park outfit are set to have a busy week as the summer transfer window draws to a close.

Reliable journalist for The Athletic David Ornstein has reported that they have agreed a deal to sign striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad, and there could well be more incomings before the door slams shut on September 1st.

The Latest: Kudus interest

As per Ghanasoccernet.com, the North East club are one of four teams in the top flight interested in signing Kudus, with Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton also set to battle it out for his signature.

There are no offers on the table as of yet, but one of the clubs has asked for a character reference from his former side FC Nordsjaelland.

The Verdict: Shelvey replacement?

Kudus should be signed as an alternative to Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park, following the Englishman's injury.

Hailed as a 'new star' in Ghana by BBC broadcaster John Bennett, and a 'really exciting' player by journalist Rahman Osman, the 22-year-old has already played 16 times for his country, scoring five goals and making three assists (Transfermarkt), and looks set to go to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He is already off the mark with a goal this season, and has six in total with four assists for Ajax (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, the Magpies should be delighted if they can get Kudus and Isak in through the doors before the deadline.
