Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed a Newcastle United transfer update on reported target Ismaila Sarr.

The Lowdown: Winger wanted

It was reported by 90min last month that the St. James' Park outfit were considering a move for Sarr, while the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Memphis Depay and Julian Draxler have also been in their thoughts at one time or another.

They have also recently been linked with Chelsea duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic, as well as Everton's Anthony Gordon, so it is clear that they want to bring a new winger to the North East before the transfer window closes.

The Latest: Sarr update

Taking to Twitter, Talbot has revealed that Sarr is 'very unlikely' to join the Tynesiders at the moment, although fellow Premier League rivals Leeds United are 'keen' on the Watford winger:

"Hear Ismaila Sarr and Newcastle very unlikely at the moment. Leeds keen though."

The Verdict: Shame

It would be a shame if Eddie Howe's team were to miss out on Sarr, especially to a top-flight rival.

Hailed as ‘scary’ and a ‘bit of a freak’ by former teammate Ben Foster, the Senegal international managed a respectable five goals and two assists for the relegated Hornets last season, despite missing large chunks of the campaign through injury (Transfermarkt).

He already has one goal and one assist in the Championship this term (viral on social media.

Nonetheless, the Magpies could potentially get him at a cut-price now that he has dropped a division, and so they should really be pushing to get a deal done.
