Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak should be in 'strong contention' to return this weekend, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.

The Lowdown: Isak's injury issues

After arriving at Newcastle for a club-record £63m fee in the summer, Isak has already missed 13 Newcastle games through a hamstring injury, while he was also absent for the 1-1 draw at West Ham United due to a concussion.

The forward not being involved for large parts of the season has not halted the Magpies' progress too much, considering they are fourth in the Premier League table, but goals have started to dry up recently, scoring just two in their last five top flight games.

As such, manager Eddie Howe will be very happy with the most recent injury update...

The Latest: Dinnery's comments

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT yesterday, Dinnery indicated that, all being well, the Sweden international will be available for selection this weekend.

The injury expert said: "We would expect that he could be back with the squad maybe, the chances are they may be off today, but by Tuesday, he should be working normally with the team. And that would put him in strong contention for this weekend.”

The Verdict: Fantastic news

The 23-year-old's first season with the Magpies has been hampered by injury issues, but whenever he has had the chance to display his talents, he has done so, scoring three goals in five Premier League appearances.

Hailed as 'brilliant' by football scout Jacek Kulig, the marksman also played a vital role in Newcastle's 1-0 victory at Southampton in the EFL Cup, coming off the bench to assist Joelinton's winning goal.

Isak has been unlucky to be sidelined for so long, but he appears likely to make his return against Bournemouth on Saturday, and he could be a real boost for Howe's side in their push for Champions League football, should he get a consistent run in the team.
