Newcastle United ace Allan Saint-Maximin is on par with Lionel Messi based off of a dribbling statistic shared by Whoscored on their official Twitter page.

As per the tweet, the 23-year old has now completed 10 or more dribbles in three separate games in the 2019/20 season, only matched by Messi himself and beaten by Adama Traore, who has done it four times for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Those occasions for Saint-Maximin were against Southampton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, with the latter occurring in the recent 3-1 home loss at St. James' Park to Jose Mourinho's team, when two goals from Harry Kane added to Heung-Min Son's opening strike which Matt Ritchie had originally cancelled out.

It may just be one stat but it is admirable to be compared to one of the greats of the game, with the Barcelona legend currently sitting on a quite staggering 630 goals and 283 assists in 727 senior appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants, according to Transfermarkt.

Saint-Maximin has been a revelation so far in the Premier League, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 24 matches, while also creating eight big chances and averaging 4.8 successful dribbles and 1.4 key passes per match in the English top flight (via Sofascore).

The Frenchman may be looking to better these stats for next season, especially if the proposed takeover of the Tyneside club is approved by the Premier League, which may lead to an improvement of quality around him if lucrative signings are made.

However, everything is all speculative up to this moment in time, but at least the Tyneside faithful can embrace what Saint-Maximin has brought to the club so far.
