Newcastle battle it out for £50m PL leader

Newcastle United have been consistently linked with AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen over the last few months, but are set to battle their Premier League peers for his signature this summer.
The Magpies are currently challenging for a Champions League qualification spot with just five fixtures remaining to seal their fate in the elite European competition for next season.
Their monumental Carabao Cup victory means they have automatically qualified for European football next season in the Conference League at the minimum, but Eddie Howe is keen to upgrade their experience with a top-five finish.
Behind the scenes, Paul Mitchell will already be putting in the work to prepare Newcastle for the next steps in their project, to compete comfortably in all competitions, including Europe and to earn more silverware.
Newcastle are expected to reinvest after selling Miguel Almiron and agreeing a £20m deal with Juventus for Lloyd Kelly, who will make his loan move to the Serie A permanent in the summer.
Mitchell has a reputation for shrewd business and recruiting young talent following his success at Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, RB Leipzig and Monaco, recruiting players who became huge Premier League talents like Sadio Mane, Kieran Trippier and Son Heung-Min.
The Independent are now reporting that Newcastle are one of the top-flight clubs with a strong interest in snapping up the services of Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen.
Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are the other potential suitors for the talented defender this summer, but the Blues are in the lead to sign the man with the £50m release clause.
It is claimed that Huijsen is seriously considering the West London club’s seven-year contract offer.
Should Newcastle sign Dean Huijsen?
There is no doubt that Huijsen fits the profile to become a valuable asset at St James’ Park, but with such strong competition it won’t be easy for Newcastle to pull off a deal.
Of course, the project on Tyneside has become increasingly appealing since their Carabao Cup victory, and with Champions League football potentially on the horizon there is no reason why they can’t attract a player of Huijsen’s calibre.
Not only that, Eddie Howe has a strong reputation for outstanding development of young players that the club have recruited in recent years, with Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall becoming Premier League stand-outs and earning spots on the international stage as a result.
However, a seven-year contract offer being tabled at Stamford Bridge does throw a spanner in the works, as the promise of securing a future long-term has been an attractive prospect for many players that have joined the Blues in recent years.
With that being said, it is highly likely that Huijsen will move on from Bournemouth this summer and if Newcastle hold a genuine strong interest they will need to put together a deal that is very attractive to beat their competitors.
