Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, former Premier League shot-stopper Chris Kirkland has lavished Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce with praise, claiming he is an ‘amazing’ and ‘remarkable’ manager.
Bruce, who was appointed last season following Rafa Benitez’ resignation, managed to guide the Magpies away from relegation – arguably a great achievement for his first year in charge.
This season, the Magpies boss has overseen a somewhat stable start to the new Premier League season – sitting comfortably in 13th with Newcastle having won just under half of their encounters.
However, supporters who hold more ambition for their club don’t see him as the right candidate to take Newcastle forward, prompting the development of backlash by some members of the fan base.
Kirkland, speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, has claimed that Bruce was actually a ‘remarkable’ boss when the pair worked together during his playing career.
“I think he has been throughout his career,” he said when asked if the Magpies boss is under-appreciated.
“I mean, he’s the best I’ve ever worked under. You ask any player that works under Steve Bruce. They’ll say the same – he’s amazing.
“Not just as a manager and his tactics but as a person as well, you could go and see him you know about any problem at all, and he would help you. He was just a remarkable man, like Jurgen is now for Liverpool.
“Steve Bruce was just incredible, and he should be in the Premier League, he’s a Premier League manager, he’s that good.”
Transfer Tavern take
Bruce proved many critics wrong with some of the Magpies’ displays last season, but if he is to truly win over the Newcastle fans, he may have to to aim higher this time around as a gruelling Premier League campaign awaits.
