Newcastle gain boost in signing £59m "gift" - Newcastle United

Newcastle United are in a prime position to qualify for Champions League football ahead of next season, which could unlock potential for a huge summer transfer window on Tyneside.

The Magpies pulled off one of their biggest victories of the season when they hosted a ‘six-pointer’ in the race for European football against Chelsea at St James’ Park over the weekend.

The 2-0 win has put them just two points behind their upcoming opponents, Arsenal, and third in the Premier League table with just two games remaining to finish the campaign as one of their most successful in decades.

Over the last few months, the St James’ Park faithful have experienced history-defining moments for Newcastle, as the Carabao Cup victory led to their first major trophy in 70 years.

It will now be Paul Mitchell’s responsibility to build upon that success by adding players to the squad who can help them progress and consistently compete at an elite level, especially in Europe next season.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United have received a boost in their pursuit of signing Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze, but will compete with Nottingham Forest for his signature this summer.

The boost is reported to come from Forest’s struggle to keep themselves tightly involved in the race for Champions League football, after dropping points over the weekend in their clash with Southampton.

The publication claims that qualification for Champions League will play a huge part in both clubs’ ability to sign the talented star, with the Magpies currently four points ahead of Forest in the league.

It is further noted that Palace would not let Eze go without a significant offer and as a result, are expected to command around £59m.

Will Newcastle sign Eberechi Eze?

There is no doubt that Eze has become one of the most popular players in the Premier League and has gone from strength to strength under the management of Oliver Glasner.

The 26-year-old – once hailed a “gift to any football club” by Palace owner Steve Parish – has been a consistent contributor for the Eagles amassing 164 appearances, 38 goals and 28 assists with a goal contribution every 178 minutes.

His keen eye for goal and consistent creativity would make him an ideal candidate to work alongside Alexander Isak to boost goals in the Newcastle attacking threat next season and beyond.

Having said that, with a price tag of £59m it would be a significant investment for the North East outfit, a figure that they haven’t committed to since the signing of Isak, so they would need to be certain that he can bring enough attacking influence to warrant the fee.

The England international doesn’t just bring goal contributions, he brings diversity in positioning providing Eddie Howe with a player that can operate comfortably and with experience across the front three roles, as well as in midfield.

With that being said, it will definitely be one to watch for Newcastle fans this summer as Eze is an impressive player that could become a huge asset to the team if the club can complete a deal.
