Martin Dubravka has been named Newcastle’s Player of the Season for his efforts in goal.
The Toon will remain in the Premier League for another season after finishing 13th in the table with 44 points. Miguel Almiron was the club’s highest scorer this campaign, rounding off with a total of eight goals to his name (via BBC Sport).
Should Steve Bruce be Newcastle's manager moving forwards?
The official Newcastle Instagram account has congratulated Dubravka on his award and fans have flooded the comments to give their take on it. A lot of supporters feel the accolade is well-deserved, but many believe others were more suited for the award. Some are suggesting Allan Saint-Maximin had the more impressive season in black and white.
Dubravka kept the fourth highest amount of clean sheets this season with 11, ahead of the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Jordan Pickford. The £4.9million-valued shot-stopper also boasts the most amount of saves made during the 2019/20 run-out, which is a huge statement that puts him ahead of some of the best goalkeepers in the world right now (via Premier League).
That said, Saint-Maximin also had an impressive campaign, netting three goals and providing five assists in 26 Premier League matches, so it is easy to see why some think he should have been given the award.
The Magpies will look to improve on their 13th place finish this term and potentially push for a top ten spot next time round. With takeover talks still swirling around the club, Toon fans could be in for a very exciting transfer window.
