Newcastle plot move for “clever” £70k-p/w PL gem

Newcastle plot move for "clever" £70k-p/w PL gem - Newcastle United

Newcastle are just three fixtures away from potentially having one of their most successful seasons in their history, with Champions League qualification hanging in the balance.

The Magpies are currently fourth in the Premier League table and in a strong position to upgrade their Conference League spot to the most elite European competition, if they can get past Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell will be fronting up the recruitment strategy for the summer, depending on the outcome of the current campaign, and finding players who can add depth and quality will play a huge part in their progress.

Bolstering the attacking threat and defensive set-up has been regularly reported to be the highest priority for the Tynesiders; however, approaching long-term midfield targets is likely to be an option too.

Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have cemented themselves as one of the strongest midfield trios in the top flight this season, and Eddie Howe has finally found the recipe for success in the centre of the pitch.

However, an opportunity could arise to bring in a versatile young player who can offer depth to multiple positions both in midfield and in the forward line, next season.

The i Paper has reported this week that Newcastle remain interested in Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey, and could look to capitalise on the recent revelation that their Champions League qualification rivals are needing to sell.

Similarly to the Magpies in the past, Villa are having their hands tied by PSR and will need to offload players before the deadline on June 30th, should they want to spend over the summer.

It is claimed that Eddie Howe is looking to take advantage of their plight by finally snatching the signature of one of their up and coming stars, with his sights set on Ramsey.

Should Newcastle sign Jacob Ramsey?

There is no doubt that Ramsey fits the profile for a player that can thrive under the guidance of the Newcastle boss, as other young English players have found their feet with Howe’s coaching and development.

Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have all taken their game to the next level since joining the project at Newcastle and it would understandable that it could be an attractive prospect for Ramsey too.

Over 27 Premier League appearances this season, the £70k-per-week gem – once hailed “clever” by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer – has delivered one goal and five assists, operating predominantly on the left wing under Unai Emery.

While Gordon and Harvey Barnes are already competing for the left winger role at Newcastle, the addition of Ramsey would provide Howe with a talented player that can offer diversity in positioning as he is capable to play in multiple midfield roles and on either wing in the attacking threat.

With that being said, Ramsey would be a great signing for Newcastle in their pursuit to add quality players to their ambitious project, but it won’t be easy to convince Villa to part ways with their prodigy.
