Newcastle “interested” in “outstanding” titan

Newcastle United remain interested in signing Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah this summer, as they prepare to add depth to their squad ahead of their campaign in Europe next season.
The Magpies have automatically qualified for Conference League football thanks to their monumental Carabao Cup victory, but are still in the mix to upgrade their experience on the European stage.
Newcastle are currently fourth in the Premier League table, and if they can retain that spot in their remaining three games of the campaign, they will qualify for the Champions League for the second time under Eddie Howe.
Dreams have already come true on Tyneside as a result of their Carabao Cup achievement, ending a 70-year major trophy drought for the club when they comfortably defeated Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
Now it will be down to sporting director Paul Mitchell to recruit new additions in the summer and build a squad that can progress upon their current achievements and comfortably compete across all competitions.
It is no secret that depth in the defensive set-up and attacking threat will be a priority for the Geordies ahead of next season, following the sale of Miguel Almiron and the pending sale of Lloyd Kelly to Juventus upon the end of his half-season loan.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed, in his exclusive newsletter for GIVEMESPORT, that Newcastle remain interested in Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah.
The transfer expert revealed:
“It’s a possibility. It’s not Liverpool trying to sell him but the player attracting interest with Newcastle and German clubs keen.”
Should Newcastle sign Jarell Quansah?
Building the future of the centre-back partnership has been a long-term desire of Howe, with a very public back and forth for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi last summer a testament to the club’s ambitions.
The Magpies were unable to secure the signature of Guehi over several bids made to the South London club, but are expected to return to the negotiating table for the England international once again this summer.
Fabian Schar has extended his stay on Tyneside for another 12 months which delighted supporters, however, at 33 year’s old, the Swiss centre-back is unlikely to be in the plans of the club beyond 2026.
As a result, finding a young defender that has room to grow and develop into the trusted partner for Sven Botman would massively improve Newcastle’s chances at matching their ambitions with tangible success.
Quansah has had a mixed tenure at Liverpool where he earned his debut under Jurgen Klopp, before being called up to the England national team for the first time during the preparations ahead of Euro 2024.
The talented 22-year-old – hailed “outstanding” by Micah Richards – hasn’t been able to maintain his usual high standards under new manager Arne Slot, but has amassed a wealth of experience at an elite level for Liverpool with 57 appearances, three goals and three assists to his name so far.
Despite his struggles in recent performances under Slot, Newcastle boss Howe has earned a reputation for developing players to help them reach their full potential, with Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon great examples of his positive influence and guidance.
This isn’t the first time the Magpies have been linked with a move for Quansah, The Athletic reported last summer that Newcastle held strong interest in the Premier League champion, however, Liverpool were not prepared to sell at the time.
With that being said, it would come as no surprise if Newcastle return for Quansah again in the summer, however, it will be interesting to see whether they view him as a ready-made starter or a player worth investing in and developing into the first team role.
