Newcastle United have expressed their interest in Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson, according to The Daily Mail.

The Lowdown: Jackson profiled

Jackson, a Senegal international, is primarily a centre-forward who can also play on either wing if required. The 21-year-old is valued at €15m by Transfermarkt and has made 30 senior appearances for his current employers, contributing to six goals.

He’s been loosely linked with a move to St. James’ Park in recent months, and it looks as if PIF have made a first move over a potential transfer.

The Latest: Newcastle named in update

The Daily Mail shared a story on Thursday, looking at various World Cup players who are on the shortlists of Premier League clubs heading into January.

One of those was Jackson, with the report stating that Newcastle are one of three top-flight sides to have expressed an interest in the forward, who has a £27m release clause.

The Verdict: One to watch...

The Magpies have seemingly made an approach by expressing their interest, so this could be one to watch heading into 2023.

Eddie Howe has three centre-forwards available to him at this moment in time, one being Chris Wood, who has been linked with an exit in the New Year.

Should a departure materialise, then perhaps a swoop for Jackson could be a smart idea for Newcastle, with the player also providing an option out wide as well.

He seems to be an exciting player who is still making his way at first-team level, so the winter window could be the ideal opportunity to pounce.
