Newcastle United do not have a clause that would allow them to potentially sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to journalist and transfers expert Rudy Galetti.

The Lowdown: Ronaldo rumour emerges

The footballing legend has had a dramatic month or so, leaving Manchester United after a bombshell interview and joining Al-Nassr in a big-money move.

A recent rumour has claimed that there is a clause in Ronaldo's contract that would allow him to join Newcastle if they qualify for next season's Champions League.

It looks as though that may not be the case, however, if a new update is to be believed.

The Latest: Journalist backs Howe

Taking to Twitter, Galetti said there is no truth in the reports, backing Eddie Howe's own denial of the rumours:

"There is no clause in favour of #Newcastle in the contract between Cristiano #Ronaldo and #AlNassr."

The Verdict: Would be a bad signing

For all the fanfare that would potentially surround Ronaldo moving to Newcastle, it would be a terrible move overall, with his second spell at United acting as a warning to any high level team in the modern game.

The Portuguese icon turns 38 next month and is a long way from the player he once was, disrupting teams' pressing plans and simply being unable to cover ground as he used to - just look at how much better Erik ten Hag's side look now.

Not only that, but his attitude and team ethic have also come into question as the years have passed and he could have a detrimental impact on what is a harmonious Newcastle squad currently.
