Newcastle United correspondent Lee Ryder has relayed an injury concern regarding Ryan Fraser ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Leicester City.

The Lowdown: Fraser under Howe

Fraser has been a regular under Eddie Howe since the latter took over at St. James’ Park.

Labelled as ‘really important’ by Paddy Kenny, the Scotland international has missed just one of the Magpies’ last 20 Premier League games.

The 28-year-old had to make way early on last time out against Wolves, and it looks as if he could be absent from the squad as Newcastle look to pull even further away from trouble with a win against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Latest: Ryder’s update

Ryder shared a story on Friday morning on Chronicle Live, relaying comments from Howe in his pre-match press conference.

The reliable reporter described Fraser as a doubt for the meeting as he hadn’t trained all week with a hamstring problem.

The Verdict: Options

Fraser missing out would be a blow as he has established himself as a key player under Howe, contributing to four of his five Premier League goals since the turn of the year.

However, the Newcastle boss should be able to call upon Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy as possible replacements from the off.

Almiron was the man who replaced Fraser early on against Wolves, but Murphy also featured, so it’ll be interesting to see the team sheet this afternoon to look at Howe’s attacking selection.
