Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has revealed that the Tyneside club are still hopeful that Isaac Hayden will sign a new deal as they maintain their hopes of securing his future at the club.
Speaking to various reporters on a Zoom call (via ChronicleLive), the manager at St. James’ Park claimed that Hayden’s display in the 3-0 thrashing of Chris Wilder’s European-chasing Sheffield United was his best under him and it did not surprise him how good of a shape the 25-year old was in when he returned to training after the global coronavirus crisis.
Bruce admitted that he would love for Hayden to stay and is trying to work around the personal circumstances that he has got in order for him to sign a new contract.
The central midfield player has been enjoying a relatively fine 2019/20 season in the famous black and white stripes so far, winning an impressive 5.7 duels per game in the Premier League, according to Sofascore.
In the 25 matches that he has played, Hayden has scored one goal and made two assists, whilst also averaging two tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.3 clearances, as per the website.
Has Hayden been underrated for Newcastle this term?
The Englishman has arguably played a pivotal part in the Magpies’ satisfying season so far, as the Toon Army sit in a rather comfortable position in the Premier League table in 13th place on 38 points, 11 clear of the relegation zone with just eight games left to play prior to this evening’s clash against Aston Villa.
Assuming that Newcastle stay up, Hayden may be persuaded by the prospect of being part of the proposed takeover by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group, which could swing him towards signing a new deal.
