Plenty of Newcastle United fans have been slamming news to do with the prospective takeover in the North East as Craig Hope exclusively revealed in his article for The Daily Mail that the Tyneside club’s proposed final Premier League fixture at St. James’ Park against Liverpool could be moved to a neutral ground.
Should Newcastle v Liverpool be played at a neutral venue?
As per the report, this is because of fears over the #cans hashtag and home supporters gathering to celebrate the end of Mike Ashley’s ownership.
Indeed, the deal between the CEO of Sports Direct and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-led consortium has not yet been fully approved by the top flight, but Northumbria Police are anticipating that the bid may be done by then and so may not want to risk congregations and possible trouble outside of the venue due to the ongoing pandemic.
There is also the consideration of Reds fans travelling to the city to mark the final match of a potentially title-winning season.
Considering that they may not be able to finish off their own campaign in their own stadium and possibly mark the end of the old regime, these members of the Toon faithful slammed the news on Twitter:
Because of #cans that is completely ridiculous

What an embarrassment this is! It’s beyond pathetic. So now the takeover won’t happen until final day? A game move because of #Cans haha what a circus! If this went through and this was a reason for neutral venue then we wouldn’t play another home game again this year. Pathetic
