According to an update by Newcastle United reporter Ciaran Kelly, the Magpies could be without up to four players for their clash against Tottenham this weekend – with Jamal Lewis, Allan Saint-Maximin, Ciaran Clark and Ryan Fraser all doubts.
Steve Bruce’s side, who lost their last Premier League game 3-0 to Brighton at St. James’ Park, will look to bounce back from the dismal home defeat with a solid result in north London – but the unavailability of some key players could prove detrimental.
Saint-Maximin, arguably Newcastle’s star attacker, has ankle problems ahead of the trip whilst new £15 million signing Jamal Lewis could also be absent due to an eye issue.
Predictions for Tottenham?
Defender Clark reportedly injured his thigh mid-week, leaving the Magpies bereft at centre-back given usual back-up deputy Florian Lejeune is on loan at La Liga outfit Deportivo.
Last but not least, the club are apparently ‘conscious‘ surrounding Fraser’s fitness, who also arrived in the summer transfer window along with Lewis.
The Scotsman, signing on a free transfer from Bournemouth, could be left out by manager Bruce as he continues to bleed him into the side following a lack of match action – potentially bad news for Newcastle given they could utilise an injection of attacking creativity.
Newcastle got off to a solid start to the season with a resounding 2-0 victory away to West Ham, but the defeat to Brighton came as a crushing reminder of their frailties.
Given journalist Kelly’s latest update, it appears Bruce may have to make do without an abundance of star names.
