Newcastle United have two fresh injury concerns over defenders DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth following their penalty shootout victory against League Two Newport County on Wednesday.
The Magpies have suffered a couple of issues with injuries at the start of the campaign, the latest of which impacted Allan Saint-Maximin, who missed out on Newcastle’s trips to Tottenham and Newport last week with an ankle injury, as per Chronicle Live.
Steve Bruce, speaking to the very same Chronicle Live, did reveal following Newcastle’s shootout win over Newport that Saint-Maximin could potentially be ready to return to their squad for the meeting with Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, although the Magpies will wait to make a final decision about his availability until nearer the weekend.
He said: “DeAndre has a knock and Emil has a bang on the hip. We don’t think it’s too serious.”
The Newcastle manager, who had come under criticism from Newcastle supporters following their performance at Newport, also revealed that Yedlin was kept out of the game with a knock, while also providing an update on Krafth who was taken off through injury against the League Two side.
He said: “Allan wasn’t quite right but we’re hoping he will be fine for the weekend.”
It appears as though both Yedlin and Krafth are not as badly injured as some thought they might have been, which will be a positive for Bruce’s side as they look improve on their most recent performances and continue to pick up points in the Premier League.
Having Saint-Maximin back fit and available will be a major boost as the attacker a crucial part of the Magpies attack. He gives them huge imputus in their attempts to drive up the field with the winger having averaged 4.7 successful dribbles per game in the Premier League last term, as per Sofascore.
It will be interesting to see whether the three players are fit and ready to feature against Burnley on Saturday, which looks like an important match for the Magpies and another chance to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.
