Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has shared a fitness update on Toon striker Callum Wilson ahead of tomorrow's Carabao Cup clash against Bournemouth.

The Lowdown: Wilson's return from Qatar

After making 11 appearances for the club in the Premier League, scoring six goals in the process, Wilson found himself in the England squad for the recent World Cup in Qatar.

Having returned to Newcastle after making two substitute appearances for England, as well as picking up a muscle strain, Howe was "cagey" over Wilson's fitness following the Toon's 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.

With the Tyneside club now set to take on the Cherries in their first competitive game since the World Cup ended, the Newcastle boss revealed Wilson's status.

The Latest: Howe's update

Speaking in his latest press conference ahead of Tuesday's game, the Toon boss finally gave a definitive answer after the initial secrecy.

"There are no issues with Callum - he's fine."

The Verdict: Good news for Newcastle

In addition to his goals, the Englishman also has the highest rate of shots at goal per 90 minutes at the club in the league this season out of players that have started at least one game.

This shows how much of a danger-man Wilson is for the team and how much of a problem he could be for his former side on Tuesday evening.

With Alexander Isak still injured and the fact that Chris Wood has only been able to score one goal in 14 league appearances this season, having Wilson available is of course a massive positive for the team.

Described as "phenomenal" by journalist Sean McCormick on Twitter, the hope for everyone at Newcastle will be that the centre-forward will be able to keep his fitness up throughout the remainder of the season and fire them into Europe.
