Newcastle United transfer target Joao Felix is prepared to leave Atletico Madrid next year, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Newcastle eyeing Felix

Earlier this month, Atletico's CEO, Gil Marin, revealed that the club will consider bids to sell the Portuguese international.

It was then reported that Felix's agent, Jorge Mendes, is set to fly into the UK for talks with Newcastle - amongst others - regarding the Atletico star ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Now, Romano has shared some behind-the-scenes details regarding Felix and what the future could hold for him.

The Latest: Felix to leave Atletico

In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say on the situation surrounding Felix and his future.

"Joao Felix, prepared to leave Atletico Madrid in 2023. He’s open to a new experience and so there are concrete chances to make the move in January. Atletico try to ask more than €100m for Joao. Mendes, discussing with many clubs."

The Verdict: Go for it!

Having started four of Portugal's recent World Cup games in Qatar, the 23-year-old scored one goal, delivered two assists and earned himself the third-highest overall performance rating (7.1/10) in the squad, according to WhoScored.

This backs up why journalist Nick Cantor described his performances in Qatar as "electric" on Twitter.

At club level, in addition to scoring three goals and supplying three assists across 12 La Liga appearances this season, Felix has also made more goal-creating actions (5) than any other Atletico player as well as having the third-highest rate of shots at goal per 90 minutes (3.33).

Taking all of this into account, even though the Spanish club may look to pick up a significant transfer fee for him, Newcastle should definitely consider a move to make Felix their first truly marquee signing under PIF.
