Newcastle United: Lee Ryder drops inside claim on Rafa Benitez

Lee Ryder has dropped an inside claim on Mike Ashley’s reported approach to bring Rafa Benitez back to Newcastle United.
As per The Transfer Window Podcast, the chief executive of Sports Direct apparently asked the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss as to whether he would come in to replace Steve Bruce before the end of the 2020/21 term in order to try and keep the St. James’ Park club in the Premier League.
Should Benitez return to Newcastle?
Yes

No

However, in his latest piece for The Chronicle, Ryder has played down this claim, as he understands that there is no truth in the suggestions made on the podcast.
Could Benitez keep Newcastle up?
The Tyneside club are currently really struggling at the moment in the English top-flight, lingering a mere three points off of the dreaded drop zone in 17th spot, albeit they have a game in hand on 18th-placed Fulham (BBC Sport).
There is still so much work for Bruce left to do in order to try and get his team away from danger, as they are far from safe.
Given that he knows the club already, and has a proven pedigree in the beautiful game having managed the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan, Benitez may have been a good solution for the Magpies.
Nonetheless, it looks as if his return is just a rumour for now until the end of the season.
