Matt Slater has revealed what the latest news coming out from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has in relation to the Premier league and in turn what this could mean for the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.
As per his official Twitter page, The Athletic journalist responded to a Saudi press release to which he relayed that the official licence of the beIN Sports Group will be terminated permanently in the KSA and the company will be fined 10 million Saudi Riyals, which is the equivalent of around £2.13 million, in the ongoing dispute with the Qataris over broadcasting rights for football games such as the ones from the Premier League.
Slater has claimed in his tweet that the top flight are yet to comment on the matter at hand, but added that the Saudis are suggesting that England’s highest division could well rip up its current deal with beIN for the rights to show their matches in the Middle East and North Africa and do a national deal with a Saudi broadcaster.
However, the football news and investigations reporter highlighted the possible problems that could come with this, one being that nobody has told beIN themselves if this could happen and another being that other countries may get involved after the KSA.
No comment from PL. Prominent Saudis are suggesting this means PL can rip up its deal with beIN for PL rights in Middle East North Africa and do a national deal with Saudi broadcaster. Two problems: 1) nobody has told beIN 2) it will be KSA 1st, then UAE, Egypt, Bahrain…chaos https://t.co/GraKjkOmrI

Nevertheless, members of the Toon faithful will be hoping that this does not scupper the prospective takeover in any way and that the league will still be focused on approving of the £300 million bid from Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group.
It is another question as to whether they will take this particular news into account when making their final decision on the deal, but everything still remains unclear until an official announcement is made.
