Peter Kenyon was apparently close to a takeover of Newcastle United as he revealed in an exclusive interview with the Daily Telegraph that 'we just couldn’t quite get that over the line' with reference to the proposed deal put forward by the former chief executive of both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Indeed, all of the talk at the moment is whether the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) can get their own £300 million bid over the line, but Kenyon exclusively talked about how close he was in taking over in the North East but a deal never seemed to materialise.

Instead, the hopes of several members of the Toon faithful that they will get taken over lies in the hands of the Premier League as they wait for the final decision by the top flight as to whether they will approve of the bid put forward by the KSA group.

The consortium is made up of the KSA crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), his country's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the businesswoman and head of PCP Capital Partners Amanda Staveley and the billionaire Reuben brothers, who are originally from India but are now based in London.

The buying side do not know as to whether they have passed the Owners' and Directors' Test (ODT) set out by England's highest division, which they must do if they are to be given the approval of the league.

Nevertheless, everything is all speculation up until this point as some NUFC fans must be wondering if they will ever be taken over following the news of Kenyon's failed bid.
