Both Aston Villa and Brentford are reportedly plotting summer moves for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

Dubravka has been out of favour at Newcastle this season, playing just two senior games, with one of those coming off of the bench after Nick Pope got sent off in the 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend.

He was sent on loan to Manchester United at the start of the campaign, suggesting that he is surplus to requirements while Pope is still at the club.

The Latest: Premier League interest

As per Football Insider, Villa and Brentford are plotting a move for Dubravka this summer, and are 'laying the groundwork' ahead of potential exits for Emi Martinez and David Raya respectively.

Dubravka's contract at St. James' Park does not expire until 2025, but could seek a permanent move away given that he has fallen behind Pope in the pecking order.

The Verdict: Get rid?

There is no doubt that Dubravka has been a great servant to the Magpies, having made a total of excellent' form by fellow goalkeeper Tom Heaton in 2020.

However, the six-foot-three colossus is no longer first choice, and Eddie Howe also has Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie that he can call upon in the squad as well as Pope.

Thus, he would not leave too much of a hole if he left this summer, and the Toon could demand a sizeable fee for him given his past experience and the fact that he still has a couple of years left on his deal.
