Richard Keys has made a rather big claim on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United as he said during the coverage from beIN Sports on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season (via The Shields Gazette) that a decision on a takeover could happen next week but it would not involve the Saudis.
“There might be [a takeover next week] but it won’t be the Saudis,” the former Sky Sports now beIn Sports presenter claimed about the bid which will surely have alerted several members of the Toon Army.
Will the Newcastle takeover go through?
Keys also claimed that the Premier League ‘know’ that they cannot give the Saudi PIF takeover the green light and added that the deal has ‘stalled’, suggesting that it may not be approved by the top flight after all.
Indeed, this will surely worry some Magpies as they have been waiting for months now as to whether the bid will finally go through, but the added delays makes it seem less and less likely.
The 2019/20 season has now finished at St. James’ Park, and with the summer transfer window now to contend with as well, perhaps it is time for some answers in the North East.
Steve Bruce will not know what kind of money he will have at his disposal which translates to what calibre of player that he would be able to attract, leaving the fans in uncertainty going into the market.
A final decision surely needs to be made by England’s highest division sooner rather than later so that NUFC know what the way is going forward, but everything is still up in the air until an official announcement is made by the league.
