Richard Masters has failed to reply to an email from MP Guy Opperman sent back in August asking for more clarity as to why exactly the proposed £300m takeover of Newcastle United by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium was failed by the Premier League.
As per The Chronicle, a fan of the St. James’ Park faithful had asked the MP for Hexham to email the chief executive of the Premier League asking for some more transparency, but Masters never replied back to him.
Are the Premier League to blame for the Newcastle takeover collapse?
George Greville Williams, a representative of the office of Opperman, has since responded to the supporter in his own email calling the act of Masters not to respond to the MP as ‘discourteous’ and ‘disrespectful’ to the many fans of the Tyneside club that Opperman represents.
While there has been an urge to seek more answers as to why the prospective deal between Mike Ashley and the KSA group was failed by the English top flight, it certainly does not put its CEO in a good light by not responding to an email that was sent back in August.
What next for the Newcastle takeover?
Supporters of the Magpies can only really keep writing to their local MPs to try and get more transparency over the whole takeover situation, with the added hope that the bid can get itself back on track.
