Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton was dubbed “immense” by Lee Ryder following the 0-0 draw against Arsenal.

The Lowdown: Newcastle draw

Newcastle valiantly held on for a point against Premier League leaders Arsenal after coming under heavy bombardment and only seeing 33.2% possession.

Eddie Howe’s side's performance demonstrated exactly why they’ve only been beaten once in the league all season with another spirited and gritted performance keeping their European chase on track.

One of the Magpies' standout performers was Joelinton who once again impressed with his new role on the left-wing with him reinventing himself again.

The Latest: Ryder’s rating

The Chief Newcastle writer for the ChronicleLive awarded ratings of mostly eights and nines for the Magpies stars who fought superbly again, with goalkeeper Nick Pope receiving a perfect 10/10 rating after facing 17 shots.

However, it was the Brazilian’s excellence that was highlighted brilliantly by Ryder who gave him a 9/10 rating.

“Absolutely immense defensively. Five tackles and three interceptions. Huge display.”

The Verdict: Deserved acclaim

The Brazilian continues to grow and has once again excelled in a new-found position off the left-hand side but his combative performance saw him involved as much as the midfield trio.

His five tackles were the highest of any player in black and white (via Sofascore), alongside two interceptions and eight duels won, proving yet again he’s one of the first to roll his sleeves up and lead the fight.

The only thing stopping him from getting a perfect 10 was surely the golden chance missed at the end of the first half, but he never let that affect him, most likely making him hungrier to battle away until the end again.
