Newcastle United could give Harry Kane a better chance of winning a trophy, according to former Premier League manager Neil Warnock.

The Lowdown: Kane’s future

Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is never settled, with the Englishman repeatedly linked with moves away as Spurs continue to fail in their attempts to win a major trophy and challenge for the Premier League.

In the summer of 2021, all the talk was that Manchester City were set to land Kane, but ESPN claimed that Spurs’ asking price wasn’t something City could match after spending £100m on Jack Grealish in the same window.

Pep Guardiola’s side have since signed Erling Haaland, leaving Kane potentially on the market for other suitors such as the Saudi-backed riches of Newcastle - if indeed his eyes are once again looking elsewhere.

The Latest: Warnock’s comments

Whilst appearing as a guest caller on TalkSport, Warnock was responding to claims from pundit and former footballer Darren Bent, who mooted that Kane could be tempted by a move to Newcastle now that the club are capable of bringing someone of his calibre to Tyneside.

Warnock said: “He’s probably right, especially with the future coming up.

“I tipped them in pre-season to finish in the top four when everybody thought I were going round the twist, but they’ve just sustained that.

“If they could get Kane, Newcastle, that would be fantastic, but that's going to cost... imagine dealing with Daniel Levy about Harry Kane, they’ll want about £250m, won’t they?”

The Verdict: Would be incredible

His collision course with Alan Shearer’s Premier League record is getting closer, with him now third on the list with 198 and only 62 short of the Magpies legend.

However, Shearer has a Premier League trophy in his time with Blackburn Rovers to his name and it would be an incredible shame for Kane’s legacy if there was not to be a title or even a major trophy to show for his career.

He’d be the ultimate statement signing and could be seen as a catalyst to win the Toon a first major trophy since 1955. With Eddie Howe’s side still left in the last eight of the Carabao Cup and third in the league table, the riches behind them right now means that Warnock's hunch could well be right.
