Callum Wilson was off the pace for Newcastle United in their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

The Lowdown: Magpies draw with the Eagles

Eddie Howe's side drew 0-0 with the Eagles at Selhurst Park, despite controlling possession with 61% of the ball across the 90 minutes and having 16 shots - 10 more than their opponents.

The Magpies have 39 points after the draw - one point closer to the magic 40 points tally -but they're onto much bigger things this season as they target a Champions League place.

The result also means that Newcastle have drawn three of their last six matches, though their unbeaten run from August drags on.

The Latest: Wilson receives poor reviews

Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World gave Wilson a 5/10 for his performance, stating that the striker has been lacklustre since his return from the World Cup.

He wrote: “Took Wilson 53 minutes to get his first sniff at goal after heading Trippier’s cross on target. Has struggled since the World Cup break.”

Dominic Scurr of the Shields Gazette gave the 30-year-old the same rating and claimed that he'll be worried about his goalscoring form in his last seven appearances.

He said: “Led the line with aggression and endeavour but not a lot of quality or service. Glanced a header straight at the goalkeeper in what was probably his best chance of the match. Seven games without a goal now for the No. 9, which will no doubt be a concern for the player.”

The Verdict: A poor display from Wilson

Wilson had a quiet and ineffective day at the office for Newcastle, and the stats certainly show it was a day to forget for the striker.

As per Sofascore, the Toon man didn't complete a single dribble and only won three of his nine ground duels, while he didn't fare much better on the ball, as he gave up possession 10 times and didn't make a key pass.

Howe may opt to change up his Newcastle side as their next two games are so important as they face Southampton over two legs in the League Cup semi-finals.

Alexander Isak would be the logical replacement for Wilson amid his current goal drought, with the Swede having a record of three league goals in five league matches.
