Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign PSG and Brazil superstar Neymar this summer.

The Lowdown: One of the greatest...

Neymar will go down as one of the greatest players of all time when he retires, with talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy claiming that he is a 'special talent' who is 'up there' with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He is worshipped in Brazil, where he became the country's joint all-time record scorer with the legendary Pele after netting his 77th at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, while at club level, he has won numerous league titles with both FC Barcelona and PSG, and the UEFA Champions League with the former.

Neymar also remains the most expensive player of all time following his astonishing €222m (£197m) move from Barca to PSG in 2017, and reports are emerging that he could be available for transfer again this summer.

The Latest: Newcastle offered Neymar

As per 90min, Neymar's intermediaries are believed to have spoken to Newcastle, as well as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, informing them of his interest to move to the Premier League, in addition to his possible availability.

PSG are thought to be open to his potential sale, although they are in no rush to let him go, with his contract in Paris not up until 2025.

The Verdict: Statement signing

Signing Neymar this summer would show to the rest of the Premier League, and Europe as well, that the Magpies mean business in terms of their long-term project.

The 31-year-old should be able to settle in well at St. James' Park, given that fellow Brazilians Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton already play there, and could be lured in by the owners' ambitions.

Nonetheless, bringing him in would also attract other top names to the club, which would really help kickstart the project in the North East.
