Gabby Agbonlahor has given his reaction to the latest Newcastle United injury news on Callum Wilson.

The Lowdown: No return date

Eddie Howe confirmed on Monday that Wilson had no return date for his injury, but hopes he will come back into the team at least before the end of the season.

This came before the former Burnley and AFC Bournemouth manager revealed that Kieran Trippier is doubtful for Sunday's game at home to Aston Villa after the calf injury that he picked up in midweek.

The boss will be praying he doesn't now get an injury pile-up going into the last few months of the campaign.

The Latest: Agbonlahor reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor, who is also a pundit for talkSPORT, has since given his reaction to the news on Wilson, claiming that it is a 'big worry' that there is no return date for him:

“This is a big worry.

“I thought he would be back for more than a few games, to be honest.

“Chris Wood still hasn’t scored and doesn’t really look like scoring. It was a strange signing in the first place.

“Guimaraes has been brought in too. It’s Ok being brought in for a lot of money but it sometimes takes a season to get going in the Premier League. Newcastle have not got a season.

“It was a massive win over Everton, that was a must-win game.

“But Wilson is definitely a worry. He’s a striker they need in their team.”

The Verdict: Very worrying

Indeed, it is very worrying that a return date has not been set for Wilson, suggesting that there is a possibility that he may not feature again this term.

He still remains the St. James' Park faithful's top scorer with six goals, despite being ruled out for the last few weeks, while new signing Chris Wood has yet to get off the mark since signing from Burnley (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, with Trippier possibly out too, the Toon Army will be praying that no other key players are ruled out for large periods of the season, as they aim to avoid relegation down to the Championship.
