Newcastle United are reportedly the 'most fearsome' club in the pursuit of Lille gem Tiago Djalo.

The Lowdown: Djalo profiled

At 22 years of age, Djalo is emerging as one of the most promising central defenders in the game, and has been hailed as 'terrific' and a future star by journalist Antonio Mango.

For Lille, he has played in push for European qualification, and has been labelled as 'one of the best defenders' in the division by journalist Zach Lowy.

Djalo is sure to attract plenty of interest this summer, especially considering Lille's history of selling players on for a big profit.

The Latest: Newcastle 'most fearsome'

As per Italian news outlet Inter Live, Newcastle are the 'most fearsome' in their pursuit of Djalo for this summer, and are 'ready to offer' over €20m (£17.6m) to sign him.

However, Inter Milan are also in the race for his signature, and have 'already found a half agreement' with the Portuguese gem.

The Verdict: Get it done

For £17.6m, Djalo could turn out to be a real bargain in the future given his age, and so this is a deal that the Magpies should be getting done.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig lists his strengths as 'pace, tackling, heading, positioning, athleticism', adding that he is a 'complete' and 'dominant' centre-back, and likens him to Manchester United star Raphael Varane.

Djalo's completeness is emphasised by the fact that he ranks in the top 25% of all centre-halves in Europe's top five leagues for a number of key metrics, including average tackles and pass completion rate per game.

Nonetheless, Djalo will know Sven Botman well, with the centre-back making the switch to St. James' Park from Lille last season, and so the pair could form a formidable new partnership on Tyneside.
