Newcastle United player Danny Rose was instrumental in the 3-0 Premier League win versus Sheffield United at St. James’ Park. We have taken a closer look at his performance against the Blades in the latest edition of our Unsung Hero feature.
Rose was a name that did not grab many headlines in his team’s rather impressive 3-0 thrashing of Chris Wilder’s side, considering that they are chasing an automatic European spot whilst the Tyneside club are trying to make sure that they are safe in the top flight for another term at least.
Allan Saint-Maximin, Matt Ritchie and even Joelinton found the back of the net after John Egan got himself sent off for a second bookable offence for pulling down the Brazilian when it was 0-0, and whilst the Magpies managed to capitalise on the extra man, Rose was arguably an unsung hero in keeping the ball out at the other end.
The ace on loan from Tottenham Hotspur won six out of his eight ground duels, whilst also recording three tackles, the most out of his teammates, as well as one clearance, blocked shot and interception, according to Sofascore.
If the 29-year old keeps up displays like this for the rest of the 2019/20 season, then Steve Bruce may have a serious decision to make as to whether to make his move permanent in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Should Newcastle sign Rose permanently given the chance?
Jose Mourinho may also need to decide as to whether to keep the English international, who will be looking to add to this rather impressive performance in the rest of the campaign.
