Newcastle United: PIF eyeing Lee Kang-In in January -Newcastle United News

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are reportedly eyeing a Newcastle United move for RCD Mallorca midfielder Lee Kang-In.

The Lowdown: Great start

Lee has enjoyed a great start to the season with Mallorca, notching up one goal and three assists in his first six matches in La Liga (Transfermarkt), while already being named in the league’s Team of the Week (TOTW) twice.

Eddie Howe is reportedly looking to add another midfielder to his squad, and if Lee became available in the January transfer window, there could be a deal to be done.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

According to Spanish sources, Lee is ‘on the agenda’ of the St. James’ Park outfit, who want to add ‘quality’ and ‘young’ players into their ranks.

The South Korea international ‘fits the profile perfectly’, although the North East club will face competition from fellow Premier League rivals Wolves for his signature.

The Verdict: One for the future

After confirming the signing of highly-rated 18-year-old Australian talent Garang Kuol, Lee is another player that could form the nucleus of an exciting future team on Tyneside.

At 21 years of age, he is another ‘outstanding talent‘ in the words of former Valencia academy director Luis Vicente Mateo, while he has also been likened to Manchester City and Premier League great David Silva.

Nonetheless, Lee is already playing at a high level in La Liga, and so should be able to make a smooth transition to the English top flight, making this link one to watch heading into the New Year.
