# Newcastle United: Noel Whelan reacts to Matty Longstaff hiring super agent

**Noel Whelan believes that Matty Longstaff hiring a new super agent may well spell the end of his time at Newcastle United.**

As per the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9019275/Sean-Longstaff-signs-deal-Pini-Zahavi-agent-expected-broker-away-Newcastle.html), the centre midfield player, who only has a mere 18 months left on his current deal with the St. James’ Park faithful, has signed a one-year agreement with Pini Zahavi, the renowned broker and player representative.

The client list of the 77-year old Israeli includes the likes of Neymar, Robert Lewandowski, Alex Telles and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg among other stars.

When asked by [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/whelan-on-sean-longstaff-newcastle-united-agent-switch/) for his verdict on the England U20 international making such a landmark change in his footballing career, Whelan claimed that it could be the end of his time in the North East:

*“It’s strange,”* the former Premier League striker tod the news outlet*. |*

*“It is really weird when a player changes agents because it is normally done for a reason.*

*“Either something is not right with his last agent, and I very much doubt that he stole money off him, or he feels he is not fighting his corner.*

*“That could be in regards to a new contract at Newcastle or negotiating a move away.*

*“Zahavi might have relationships with other clubs that could benefit him in the future. That is usually what happens.*

*“Different agents have different relationships with clubs and chairmen. That could be why he has moved.”*

### Longstaff may need to be sold by Newcastle

Longstaff was strongly [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/newcastle-united-steve-bruce-gives-big-matty-longstaff-update/) with a move away from the Tyneside club in the summer transfer window, but a possible exit never materialised.

The fact that the 20 year-old has hired a super agent, who has helped some of his other clients onto transfer moves, suggests that he is unhappy at the Magpies and may want to seek a move away as Whelan has suggested.

With just [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-longstaff/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/484387/plus/0?saison=2020&verein=762&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) senior game played for Steve Bruce’s team in the 2020/21 term so far, perhaps it would be a wise idea for the Toon to look to let him go as soon as possible, potentially in the January transfer window.
