# Newcastle United snub interest in duo despite recent links – Journalist

**With the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoying life back in the Premier League, their collective mood turned slightly sour of late.**

Indeed, it was nothing to do with the team itself, rather the fact that Aleksandar Mitrovic was linked with a January move to Brighton and Hove Albion.

While the Serbia star has never really enjoyed a run of games as a guaranteed first-team starter under Rafa Benitez, he’s a hugely popular figure amongst the Geordie contingent in our bar and the idea of him departing for what could be a relegation battle seriously annoyed our punters.

So, comments from Chronicle [journalist](https://twitter.com/MsiDouglas/status/917700589093605377) Mark Douglas have at least lightened the mood somewhat. Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/MsiDouglas/status/917700589093605377), he poured cold water on suggestions Mitro could leave, [claiming](https://twitter.com/MsiDouglas/status/917700589093605377) the club already rejected interest in the forward over the course of the summer window.

Both he and Chancel Mbemba are [believed](https://twitter.com/MsiDouglas/status/917700589093605377) to attracted interest from elsewhere, though it was [reportedly](https://twitter.com/MsiDouglas/status/917700589093605377) snubbed due to the high valuations imposed on the pair.

**Landlord’s Verdict:**

Selling Mitrovic to Brighton would an absolutely stupid idea, even for Mike Ashley. Newcastle are struggling for goals right now and the sight of seeing a man who could help in that regard strut his stuff elsewhere would be as damaging as it would be gutting.

***Thoughts?***
