# Newcastle United: Steve Bruce reveals Ryan Fraser ‘blow’

**Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce revealed that the club may be without Ryan Fraser for their Premier League fixture on Tuesday.**

So far this season, Fraser has struggled for regular Premier League game time for Newcastle, predominantly down due to a [number of injuries](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-fraser-newcastle-injury-doubt-19742793), with the Scot [starting just five games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fraser/leistungsdaten/spieler/146795) in the league.

And, speaking in his [pre-match press conference](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-fraser-newcastle-injury-doubt-19742793), Bruce claimed that the [£10.8 million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-fraser/marktwertverlauf/spieler/146795) 26-year-old could once again be unavailable for selection for Newcastle’s clash with Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening, as the winger is ill.

He [said](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-fraser-newcastle-injury-doubt-19742793): “The concern I’ve got at the moment is, unfortunately, Ryan Fraser. He’s been sick all weekend and couldn’t make training yesterday. Thankfully, we don’t think it’s related to \[the pandemic\], but, obviously, it’s a blow for us because unfortunately he’s been stop-start since the start of the season.”

### **Transfer Tavern Take**

Fraser’s poor health certainly is a blow for Newcastle, as the winger put in his [second-best performance of the season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/93160/MatchStatistics/Ryan-Fraser) against Everton last week, earning a [WhoScored match rating of 6.69](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/93160/MatchStatistics/Ryan-Fraser) for his contributions over the 67 minutes he spent on the pitch.

However, considering the 26-year-old’s return of [no goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/93160/Show/Ryan-Fraser) and [one assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/93160/Show/Ryan-Fraser) over his 11 Premier League appearances so far this season, it could be argued that Fraser has not been a very profitable signing for the Magpies thus far in his Newcastle career, and perhaps his absence will pave the way for Allan Saint-Maximin to finally return to the first XI.
