Following Fulham's relegation to the Championship, it's unlikely that Mario Lemina will be staying with them next season but Steve Howey, who was part of the Newcastle United side that almost won the Premier League in 1996, spoke exclusively to Transfer Tavern about whether or not the Magpies could do with him at the club.

It was only in 2019 that Lemina was being linked with a move to Manchester United but after that failed to materialise he found himself out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl and farmed out on loan to Fulham this season.

Lemina has been linked with a move to St James' Park this summer but that may only hinder the development of youngsters Matty Longstaff and Elliot Anderson for another season as Steve Bruce will be looking to the future.

The Magpies saw their safety secured when Burnley beat Fulham last week and with just a 6.58 WhoScored rating, Lemina may not have done enough to warrant a move away, something Howey spoke exclusively to The Transfer Tavern about:

"I think he's technically a very good player but Lemina is one of these players where you think why is he not getting into Southampton's team? There must be a reason why.

"I think he's a gifted player but is he a player that Newcastle need? Probably not and it could be similar to Bentaleb as he had very good ability but he didn't do it."

Bruce has already earmarked one signing he would love to make and that is Joe Willock who has been a revelation since he joined on deadline day having netted six times in just nine starts for Newcastle.

The Magpies have proved themselves to be one of the best-attacking sides in the league since their 3-0 defeat against Brighton having scored 15 goals in their last seven league matches.
