Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on his official Twitter page that the deal for Newcastle United to bring Sassuolo ace Rogerio to St James’ Park is now off.
According to the tweet from the transfer guru, Jamal Lewis is the only left-back that the Tyneside club will buy in the summer transfer window.
Is Lewis worth £15 million?

Indeed, a previous report had suggested that a deal had been agreed for Rogerio to move to the northeast for €14m, which is the equivalent of roughly £12.6m.
The Italian club were also apparently already looking for a replacement for the Brazilian, with Barcelona B’s Sergio Akieme named as a possible successor if he had made the move to the Magpies.
Rogerio would have arguably been a good signing for the Toon, as he won on average four duels per game in Serie A in 2019/20 and also averaged a relatively impressive two clearances and 1.5 tackles per match, as per Sofascore.
Those are just his defensive exploits, but the full-back has also shown that he can be useful in an attacking sense as well. In a total of 101 appearances over the course of his club career so far, including at youth level, he has scored three goals and provided a further six assists (via Transfermarkt).
Rogerio has also played in midfield in the past, highlighting that he can be just as effective when deployed higher up the pitch.
Nonetheless, Steve Bruce will be hoping that Lewis can perform as well as if not better than Rogerio, and with experience in the Premier League to the ex-Norwich man’s advantage, perhaps Newcastle have made the right choice.
