According to an update by Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Newcastle United could be ‘back in the running’ to snap up Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik after his failed transfer to AS Roma, with the Magpies having recently been ‘ready to invest’.
Milik, who bagged 14 goals in all competitions last season for the Serie A side, has been attracting serious interest from the Tyneside club as they ponder swoops for star assets who can offer more potency up front.
Recently, Newcastle snapped up former Bournemouth forward and England international Callum Wilson in a £20m deal, but that hasn’t stopped reports coming out about possible moves for other strikers.
Should Newcastle snap up Milik?
No, we've signed Wilson
As per this update, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Milik after Roma’s move for the 51-cap international collapsed recently, with Corriere dello Sport claiming that Steve Bruce’s side could heavily invest in bringing him to St James’ Park.
There are definitely strong incentives to ponder a swoop for the striker, as explained by numerous admirers including Premier League boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti described the Pole as ‘sensational‘ when in charge of Napoli after a 2-1 win over Lazio back in January 2019, huge praise given the strikers he has managed in the past, including the likes of Filippo Inzaghi and Didier Drogba.
The current Everton manager didn’t stop there, going on to compare him with Paris Saint-Germain striker Maurco Icardi whilst stating that Milik is a more ‘complete‘ all-round player.
Given such strong endorsements, as well as being potentially made available once more, Newcastle have been gifted a chance to swoop for a striker in Milik who could provide that extra punch in attack.
