Newcastle United have enquired about the possibility of signing Bouna Sarr as a deal for Valentino Lazaro looks to be in serious doubt, according to The Northern Echo.
As per the outlet, the Tyneside club are interested in signing the Olympique Marseille ace but face stiff competition from La Liga, with the likes of Sevilla, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid also fighting to secure his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Sarr is valued at roughly €15m, which is the equivalent of around £13.7m, and may be a cheaper option to buy than making the current loan deal for Lazaro from Inter Milan into a permanent one.
Who would be best for Newcastle at right-back?
The publication states that the 24-year old has a release clause of £20m, which has been questioned to be too much and thus putting any sort of deal in serious doubt.
Comparing the stats of Sarr in Ligue 1 in the 2019/20 season to those of DeAndre Yedlin, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo in the Premier League so far in this campaign, the French right-back averaged the most tackles, interceptions, shots, key passes and dribbles per league game, according to Whoscored.
Sarr has shown his superior abilities to the other options at St. James’ Park in his position both defensively and in an attacking sense, which could well encourage Steve Bruce to force through a potential transfer.
However, if Newcastle can conjure up a deal for Lazaro, then a possible move for the 28-year old may be put into doubt, but everything is all speculation at this point until the window officially opens.
