Newcastle United may miss out on the possibility of signing Cengiz Under as Gianluigi Longari has revealed on his official Twitter page that Leicester City are in advanced talks for the AS Roma ace.
According to a tweet from the Italian football journalist, the Tyneside club are searching for a winger and Under is apparently at the top of their list of transfer targets.
#Leicester #LCFC are in advanced talk with #Roma for Cengiz #Under but not only #Foxes are on fire for the player. #Newcastle #NUFC are searching for a winger and #Under is on top of the list. #transfers

A recent report has suggested that the Serie A club are looking to sell him on a permanent deal for €25m, which is the equivalent of roughly £23m.
Indeed, Under would be quite the coup if the Magpies can manage to pull off a deal. In his club career so far, the Turkish international has scored a relatively impressive 37 goals and provided a further 28 assists in 189 matches over all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.
Comparing his stats in 2019/20 to Newcastle’s attacking midfielders Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron in their respective domestic leagues, Under averaged the most key passes, crosses and long balls per game (via Whoscored).
At 23 years of age as well, Under still has a lot of time to develop further as a footballer, and he may well be able to do this for Newcastle.
Does Under start for Newcastle?
However, it seems as if Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes may well beat Steve Bruce’s side in getting his signature over the line given that they are in advanced talks with Roma for the winger. Nonetheless, there is still time before the summer transfer window shuts for Newcastle to submit an offer.
