Newcastle United are expected to make a new offer for Dimitris Giannoulis, according to journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

Indeed, this comes after the Tyneside club had reportedly made an initial offer worth £4.5m to sign the defender, but now it seems as if they may have to raise their bid.

The Magpies are looking to sign a new left-back as both Danny Rose and Jetro Willems have returned to Tottenham Hotspur and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively following their loan spells at St James’ Park in 2019/20.

Their departures have left Steve Bruce relatively short in this particular area of the pitch and so the manager is now looking to find someone to fill that role on a more regular basis.

Giannoulis may well be the answer to Bruce's prayers, as the full-back played in 44 matches over all competitions for Greek team PAOK last season as he was very much a regular outfit in their side.

The 24-year old is also a senior Greece international, having played in seven games after making his debut back in 2018 under coach Michael Skibbe, as per Transfermarkt.

Indeed, getting a deal over the line for a man who is relatively experienced and arguably still has a lot of potential being just 24 years of age may be a decent bit of business if the Magpies can pull off the transfer.

However, a new offer seemingly has to be made now if Newcastle are serious about wanting to sign Giannoulis, with Bruce needing to fill in a problem position going into the new season.
