Newcastle have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season by welcoming Callum Wilson through the door of St James’ Park.
The former Bournemouth striker joins to Tyneside club on a four-year deal after agreeing a transfer fee of £20million with the recently relegated Cherries (via BBC Sport).
After his return of eight goals and three assists in the Premier League last season, it’s no wonder that Newcastle opted to bring him to the club.
Is Callum Wilson a good signing for Newcastle?
However, one thing fans are questioning about his appointment is the shirt number he has been given. The official Toon Instagram account revealed the squad numbers for the coming campaign and the fanbase are surprised to see Joelinton retain the No.9 and Wilson be handed No.13.
In response to the post, a lot of the Magpies fans are surprised and are asking questions about the decision as they clearly feel the clinical goalscorer should be given the iconic No.9 jersey, which of course was previously worn by legendary striker Alan Shearer as well as Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole.
Wilson will likely take the place of Joelinton at the front of Newcastle’s attack, as the Brazilian mustered up just two goals last season (via Transfermarkt).
The former Bournemouth man will also link up with a player he knows very well. Not only did they bring Wilson to the club but the Toon also scooped up Ryan Fraser on a free contract.
The duo will be eligible for selection as Newcastle prepare to face West Ham in their first game of the 2020/21 campaign.
