Newcastle United have reportedly held talks about the possibility of signing Bradley Cross, according to The Chronicle.
As per the outlet, the central defender had a trial period with the Tyneside club as he is currently out of contract after spending the last two years with Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. Cross is believed to have a UK passport and has also had a stint with Go Ahead Eagles.
The South African has played in a total of 38 games in all competitions over two separate terms for Schalke’s under-19 team (via Transfermarkt) before his contract ran out at the German side, and therefore he is now free to move to St James’ Park should the Magpies decide to make a move for him in the summer transfer window.

Cross is also able to fill in at left-back and in the defensive midfield role (per Transfermarkt), and so his versatility could be useful to Steve Bruce should he wish to sign him up and put him straight into the first team.
At just 19 years of age as well, Cross still has a lot of time to grow and develop as a footballer and Newcastle could potentially be the place for him to do exactly this.
Scouts from clubs in the Premier League had reportedly previously watched Cross earlier in the year, but it looks as if the Magpies may be able to get his signature over the line at the expense of their rivals, providing that the talks are successful.
