Newcastle United are reportedly in the race for Florentino Luis as the Daily Mail have reported that the European giants of Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan are also fighting for his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Do you think Newcastle can win the Premier League within the next 5 seasons?
As per the report, the Tyneside club have asked about the possibility of signing the Benfica ace, although all transfer deals are apparently on hold at the moment until the proposed takeover in the northeast is officially confirmed.
However, Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabia-led consortium may want to get a move on if they are serious about trying to strike a potential transfer, as AC Milan are allegedly leading the race at this current moment in time (as per Daily Mail). They are looking to secure a deal that would see him initially join on loan before signing on a permanent basis for £35m in next year’s transfer window.
Luis has only managed to feature in seven games in the Portuguese league so far in the 2019/20 season but he has boasted some relatively impressive stats for a defensive midfield player. In those seven appearances, Luis has managed to win 4.7 duels per match, and also averages 4.1 interceptions, 2.9 tackles and 0.4 clearances per game, according to Sofascore.
Of course, the Premier League is a totally different animal, but only time would tell whether the 20-year old would succeed in the English top flight.
It is highly likely that the prospective takeover would have to go through anyway in order for the Magpies to be able to afford his potential £35mtransfer fee but, if it does, Luis could perhaps be a welcome addition to the Toon.
