Newcastle: Magpies face stiff competition for transfer target Eberechi Eze - Newcastle United Transfer Rumours

Newcastle United are set to rival Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United for Queens Park Rangers ace Eberechi Eze, according to The Guardian.

As per the outlet, David Moyes is determined to win the race for the Championship star, who is valued by his club at £20m. However, the Hammers are apparently unlikely to be able to spend heavily in the summer transfer window, as Roy Hodgson and the Eagles have been tracking him for a long time and therefore do not want to miss out.

Which season did Longstaff make his debut for the Newcastle U18's?

Nevertheless, the Magpies also remain interested in securing the signature of Eze alongside fellow Premier League clubs Aston Villa and indeed West Brom, who have been promoted to the top flight under Slaven Bilic.

Eze enjoyed a relatively impressive 2019/20 Championship season, scoring 14 goals and providing a further eight assists, having featured in all 46 league games for QPR (via Transfermarkt).

Comparing the stats of the attacking midfield player to the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron in their respective leagues in the last campaign, Eze averaged the most shots, key passes, crosses and long balls per match (per Whoscored).

There is a difference in quality between the two leagues but, based off of Eze’s 2019/20 statistics, perhaps it is time for the QPR man to step up another level.

Newcastle face plenty of competition for the services of Eze but, if they are willing to pay his £20m asking price, then they may well be able to sign the Englishman in this window.
