According to a report by Belgian news outlet Het Belang van Limburg, via Chronicle Live, Diogo Jota’s arrival at Liverpool could force striker Divock Origi into a move elsewhere – with Newcastle now tipped with holding an interest in the player after a key development at Anfield.
Origi, who has become a fan favourite on Merseyside following his Champions League heroics over the last two seasons, will reportedly find game time difficult to come by following Jota’s signing – which could force him to seek a transfer with a host of clubs now keeping a watchful eye.
Should Newcastle snap up Origi?
Yes, star signing
No, terrible last season
Indeed, as claimed by Het Belang van Limburg, Liverpool value his services at around £14.6 million – with Newcastle, Fulham, Aston Villa, Brighton and Leeds United all monitoring the situation.
Despite recently signing Callum Wilson for around £20 million, Newcastle are now being tipped with interest in the ‘exceptional‘ Origi as a gruelling and congested 2020/2021 fixture list looms – especially considering Steve Bruce’s men will most likely be battling relegation.
£40m club record signing Joelinton has, so far, failed to become a prolific force during his time at the Magpies – and Newcastle will need all the potency up front they can get in order to stand the best chance of surviving the drop.
Now, this Belgian news outlet claims Bruce and co could take advantage of Origi’s reported potential unrest – and his valuation is hardly bad for a recent Champions League-winning hero.
A 28-cap international with bags of experience on the biggest stages in world football, his slump in form last season aside, Origi could prove to be a bargain buy if Newcastle do take the plunge.
