Jetro Willems is continuing to hope that Newcastle United make an offer to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt during this month’s transfer window, according to Bild.
The Netherlands international has yet to play a single game for the German club in the 2020/21 term as he has been trying to recover from a cruciate ligament rupture (Transfermarkt).
Should Newcastle sign Willems?
Still, he is hoping that he can regain his fitness and potentially secure a move back to the St. James’ Park faithful before the January window shuts.
Willems could be a good signing for Newcastle
Willems was a solid performer when he was on loan at the Tyneside club in the last season, winning no fewer than 5.1 of his duels a match in the Premier League and also averaging two clearances, 1.9 tackles and 1.1 successful dribbles per game (Sofascore).
Not only does he have the past experience of playing in the top flight, but the 26-year-old also has experience of playing at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League from back when he was at PSV (Transfermarkt), and so has learned from playing some of the best sides in Europe.
He may not cost much money as well, as he is currently valued at a mere £4.05m by Transfermarkt, and should he move back to St James’ Park, he would provide some competition to Jamal Lewis in the left-back spot for Steve Bruce’s team.
